October 1 - 5
Dates to Remember!
Monday, October 22nd NO SCHOOL! Teacher work day
Friday, October 26th Report Cards
Reading
This week's story is Ronald Morgan Goes to Bat. It is a Realistic Fiction story that discusses the importance of teamwork and reaching a shared goal. We will also be reviewing Nouns and learning about Contractions.
Spelling
A new sort will be sent home on Monday this week. PLEASE keep your child's sort at home until Friday when we will glue it down on paper. I only need to see the orange spelling folder daily. Our Spelling test is still Fridays, make sure you are studying the words with your child all week!
Math
We will be looking at Word Problems this week. I will teach students multi-step addition and subtraction problems. These take a lot of thought, students will be challenged to work for their answers in a step-by-step fashion. I am excited to see my eager group of learners tackle these problems!
Writing
This week we will focus on the descriptive paragraph. We will take a good topic sentence about an exciting moment and add details that make others want to read our pieces. We will also continue to work with transition words that show sequence and order in our writing. We will learn to "go with the flow" as we use time order words like first, second, later, once, earlier, suddenly, last, and finally.
Social Studies
On Thursday students will be assessed on their knowledge of where they are in the world. We have already studied this and assembled booklets that remind us what planet, continent, country, state, county, and town we live in. We loved looking at GoogleEarth in the classroom to find where in the world we are!
